The Vilamoura International High-Performance Sailing Centre opened on Friday the 17th of February. The project has emerged from a partnership between the Companhia Náutica and Vilamoura Marina. The centre will provide a base for high-level sailors to train, compete and stay. Even though Vilamoura Sailing - High-Performance Centre is open year-round, it is expected to have peak use between October and May, which coincides with the unfavourable conditions in central and northern Europe.
The centre will provide a diverse fleet, including Optimist 420, 29ers, Laser Standard, Laser Radial, Laser 4.9 and 470. In addition, the centre will also provide semi-rigid boats for trainers.
The Vilamoura International High-Performance Sailing Centre will provide Vilamoura and its Marina with a further point of differentiation further strengthening the sense that Vilamoura is a year-round destination. Vilamoura Marina has a long history of organising nautical activities as shown with the success of the World Cup Optimist in 2016 and the annual Carnival Regatta that attracts over 500 participants to Vilamoura.
